Bob, I don't know where this is formally documented, but the following is culled from a Psyche system. If there are any significant differences in a Shrike system, I trust someone will tell us. Log in as root, then go to your personal home directory and mv the following to a safe place. When you log back in as yourself, most of this directory structure will be recreated. The contents of the individual files could be different. You can compare those after the fact. In /home/foo: drwx------ 5 foo foo 4096 Jul 18 19:41 .gnome drwxr-xr-x 2 foo foo 4096 Jul 18 19:41 .gnome-desktop drwxr-xr-x 5 foo foo 4096 Jul 18 19:41 .gnome2 drwx------ 2 foo foo 4096 Jul 18 19:40 .gnome2_private -rw-rw-r-- 1 foo foo 134 Jul 18 19:40 .gtkrc-1.2-gnome2 In these directories and files you will find: .gnome: drwx------ 2 foo foo 4096 Jun 19 07:17 accels drwx------ 2 foo foo 4096 Jun 19 07:24 application-info drwxr-xr-x 2 foo foo 4096 Jun 19 07:17 gnome-pilot.d drwxrwxr-x 2 foo foo 4096 Nov 30 2002 gnome-vfs drwx------ 2 foo foo 4096 Jun 19 07:25 mime-info .gnome/accels: -rw-rw-r-- 1 foo foo 435 Jun 19 07:17 gnomecc-single-shell My file contains: ; gnomecc-single-shell GtkItemFactory rc-file -*- scheme -*- ; this file is an automated menu-path dump ; ;(menu-path "<gnomecc-single-shell>/File" "") ;(menu-path "<gnomecc-single-shell>/Help" "") ;(menu-path "<gnomecc-single-shell>/Help/Help on control-center" "") ;(menu-path "<gnomecc-single-shell>/File/Exit" "<Control>q") ;(menu-path "<gnomecc-single-shell>/Help/About" "") ;(menu-path "<gnomecc-single-shell>/Help/" "") .gnome/application-info: -rw-rw-r-- 1 foo foo 262 Jun 19 07:24 user.applications My file contains: # This file is automatically generated by gnome-vfs application registry # Do NOT edit by hand # Generated: Thu Jun 19 07:24:58 2003 gnome-default-applications-editor requires_terminal=false command=ooffice can_open_multiple_files=true name=OpenOffice.org .gnome/gnome-pilot.d: -rw-rw-r-- 1 foo foo 53 Jun 19 07:17 gpilotd My file contains: [General] sync_PC_Id=nnnnnnnnnn <-- a 10-digit decimal number progress_stepping=1 .gnome/gnome-vfs: -rw-rw-r-- 1 foo foo 29 Jun 18 16:54 .trash_entry_cache My file contains: /mnt/floppy - /pub - /boot - .gnome/mime-info: -rw-rw-r-- 1 foo foo 242 Jun 19 07:25 user.keys My file contains: # this file was autogenerated by gnome-vfs-mime-info. # DO NOT EDIT BY HAND text/ default_application_id=gnome-default-applications-editor default_action_type=component text/plain default_application_id=gnome-default-applications-editor -rw-rw-r-- 1 foo foo 77 Jun 19 07:25 user.mime My file contains: # This file was autogenerated by gnome-vfs-mime-info. # Do not edit by hand. .gnome-desktop: -rwx------ 1 foo foo 115 Jul 18 20:19 Trash -rwx------ 1 foo foo 138 Nov 30 2002 foo's Home -rw-r--r-- 1 foo foo 1820 Nov 30 2002 starthere.desktop .gnome2: drwx------ 2 foo foo 4096 Nov 30 2002 accels -rw-r--r-- 1 foo foo 24 Nov 30 2002 gdm drwx------ 3 foo foo 4096 Nov 30 2002 panel2.d drwxr-xr-x 4 foo foo 4096 Nov 30 2002 share .gnome2/accels: <empty directory> .gnome2/panel2.d/default/launchers: This directory contains many files named various-hhhhhhhhhh.desktop where hhh... are 10 hex digit numbers.
