Hi Joe and others, Thanks for your advise. I was able to solve the puzzle. Guess what! I am a crazy to add the path in a separate file java.sh in /etc/profile.d I added the file java.sh in my user .bashrc and now everything is fine. I added earlier in /etc/profile.d since I am really ignorant about the place/file where we should add the paths. Also, I did not do chmod -x /usr/bin/java which came with the Shrike since someone had suggested me not to do this as some other programs like OpenOffice may not function.
