Normally newer kernels from RH Update also contain bugfixes so in general it is advisable to update. Always test a new kernel before deploying on a production system though. I updated to 2.4.20-18.9 which works fine for me and still need to find the time and courage to try to put the nvidia agpgart.diff in and rebuild.
