Update blues

Dear sir or madam,

Recent updates have been causing more problems instead of solving problems :
- Update kernels from the 2.4.20-13.9-family caused kernel-panics, eth0
hangups at shutdown, Audigy soundcards going silent etc.
(Question : I have experienced all of this so why was all this not seen
prior to release ? This is supposed to be Red Had Update and not Rawhide.)
- Update for the Xinetd-2.3.11-1.9.0 super-server effectively hinders/breaks
down carefully crafted rexecs/rlogins/rsh permissions which I need for my
OpenMosix-cluster.

The first line of problems can be dealt with by installing the
2.4.20-13.9.1-line of kernels from
http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/testkernels/ (thanks Arjan) or by
reinstalling the 2.4.20-9 update kernel. The workings of the Xinetd
super-server can be restored by doing a force install of the original RH9
Xinetd-2.3.10-6.

The problem with this is that an update is supposed to be a upgrade in
security or bugfix so that means you should really apply the update, but
what if then nothing works as it should ?
Has the functionality of the super-server been transferred elsewere ? If so
why have we not been told so in the errata ?

Regards
John Pover
