Sorry that reinstalling the SBLive/Audigy drivers didn't work. After
installing RH9 on my system, I installed the emu10k1 0.20a drivers from
soundforge. So when I got the sound problem with the last kernel update I
simply reinstalled this driver and all was well on my system.

Reloading the driver didn't work for me, same problem; in addition the
Mozilla and Shutdown hangs make these bugs intolerable, so I've just backed
out. 
Hopefully someone will address soon.
