Hi Arjan, With previous RedHat kernels on RH9, my laptop (which has terrible IDE performance) would become unusable under heavy write load. It would often fail to start OpenOffice from a cold cache while up2date or yum were doing I/O. Now it starts, albeit slowly, and Mozilla or a terminal window start in a reasonable amount of time.
