If memory serves correctly, RealPlayer 8 is one of the applications
that doesn't work with NPTL and needs $LD_ASSUME_KERNEL be set
appropriately as mentioned in the release notes of Shrike.

RealPlayer 9 however works, but doesn't come with a plugin.
