Thanks Joe.  I'll watch the font.  The default numlocks off came with
antique keyboards that didn't have a separate number pad.  The default
with a modern keyboard should be numlocks on or, at least, easily
selectable as default.  I can't find the setting you are referring to
and I'm so used to having it on that I only catch it after an error.
