External hard drive that WORKS for RH9???

I've been struggling with an external hard drive enclosure from DMI that 
supports USB 2.0 and 1394 and trying to get it to work with RH7.3 thru 
RH9.  I've done the driver updates, custom kernels, etc. etc....

At this point, I just need a solution that "just works" with RH9 with as 
little tweaking as possible.

Is there such a device on the market that someone has experience with?
