It also happens to have the 'rpm' make target, which is helpful for what you are trying to do. This is also the package you would install if you have source code for a kernel module, and wanted to compile a module for your running kernel. > What problem is kernel*.src.rpm trying to solve? Why is it separate? The kernel*.src.rpm contains the pristine kernel source, as well as all the patch files, scripts, etc. used by Red Hat to build all of the kernel packages contained within the distribution. i586, i686, athlon, bigmem, smp... Making changes to a config file, and building just the package you want is a little more complicated than the above solution. - -- - -Michael pgp key: http://www.tuxfan.homeip.net:8080/gpgkey.txt Red Hat Linux 7.{2,3}|8.0 in 8M of RAM: http://www.rule-project.org/ - -- -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE+sz7cn/07WoAb/SsRApGFAJ4l/EHtm0SEt+yvligphyiVjyGgfQCfcwc5 nSR/54OD6/PAQgZjcCv92/s= =H+gA -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
