Well Pontiac made a car called the Firebird ... dating back to 1967.
Which came first. ;^)

There's a band in Southampton called "Xavier Floyd Firebird" ...
The Firebird is a creature from ancient legend ... (Phoenix) ...
There's a racetack in Boise, Idaho called Firebird ...
www.firebird.net is a design company in Ireland ...
Firebird books is an imprint of Penguin Putnam Inc (www.firebirdbook.com) ...

The fact that two software projects happened to choose the same code name is coincidence, it's a popular name. I hadn't heard of the firebird database before, and I don't expect the Mozilla folks had either, it's not exactly similar technology is it.
