I'm stumped. I looked at /proc/bus/usb/devices, and I get a listing for the UPS that looks like: T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 2 Spd=1.5 MxCh= 0 D: Ver= 1.10 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1 P: Vendor=051d ProdID=0002 Rev= 0.06 S: Manufacturer=American Power Conversion S: Product=Smart-UPS 1000 XL FW:631.3.D USB FW:1.5 S: SerialNumber=AS0315130454 C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=e0 MxPwr= 30mA I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=03(HID ) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=(none) E: Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 6 Ivl=100ms >From the T: line, I see that Dev# = 2. >From the I: line, I see that Cls=03 (HID) Am I reading this wrong? Shouldn't my configuration require that I define DEVICE=/dev/usb/hiddev2 In /etc/sysconfig/ups? When I do this, and restart the ups script, I get: No such device I also tried every other hiddev number listed, and all of them come up with no such device. Further, I tested moving the connection to one of the different slots on the back of the Linux box (I have 4) and sure enough, the Dev# line changed each time I did this.
