nvidia and 2.5.70 kernel

backing up one level from my previous posting on where
one finds "modversions.h", let me ask a more general question --
has anyone successfully moved from a 2.4.20 kernel up to a recent
(ideally, 2.5.70) kernel and rebuilt and re-installed their
nvidia drivers? care to share the recipe?

i've been trying to combine what i find at www.nvidia.com and
more info at www.minion.de, but there are inevitable glitches
in either the build or installation process.

i've been exchanging email with the guy behind www.minion.de,
and he's given me a couple more ideas, but is there anyone
who's actually pulled this off and can produce a working recipe?

loads of thanks in advance for the lucky winner.

p.s. machine config:

  inspiron 8100
  nvidia geforce2go
  1600x1200 LCD display
