It's not directly supported by Linux as in the printer being fairly new. And
the features of the printer are not supported by the current linux drivers.
The TurboPrint package supports it much better, and it will give you
information as to the ink tank status (This printer has 6 ink tanks). And
will let you do the head cleaning stuff etc. Plus allowing you to configure
the printer for bordered or borderless printing etc etc.. As to the ink
tanks being refillable, well I personally don't recommend it. But I'm sure
there would be some Printer Ink companies out there which will have them for
this model if you want it. (I found that the refilling of the ink tanks,
tend to reduce the head life of the printer. Which will also mean that you
will have to change the print heads at a more regular interval. So I stick
to the Canon originals in this case.)

IOW, you mean that it is not directly supported in linux, but needs drivers
that are *not* open source?
