This is the first I've heard of 'prelink' I'm about to install it.

Prelink helps start up time, it won't make the app run faster once it's actually got going.

What makes you think that removing a part of the file that isn't loaded (the symbol table) is actually going to make a program run faster?

Do you have any measurements or does it just "feel" faster?
