It was a typo, it's a PIII 500 Toshiba laptop. I didn't notice this behavior 
in RH8, but then again, I don't recall the proc/cpuinfo there. I'm equally, 
if not more worried about my web browsers running like they're sucking air. 
This is a straight install. I had to install in text mode, because the gui 
kept dying. Also, occassionally I get segfaults when dicking with my nics. I 
have a 3COM on the dock and a wireless on the laptop itself. All worked fine 
with RH8.  So far, I'm not impressed but I figure how different can they be?
