i have got pcmcia to work with rh9 and custom kernel.
i used pre6 for kernel and acpi patch.

i was going to mention the trouble i had,
but i see that you modified the init script.
what i had to do was rename the
lib/modules/2.4.21-pre6/pcmcia
directory so that it wasnt scanned by the init script.

pcmcia wouldnt even start until i did that,
so you obviously solved that problem.

i guess all i can say is that i got it working
and i use the hermes and orinoco modules.

this is on a dell I2650
and this did give me a usable battery meter,
but not full acpi support

later tonight i could send my startup info if you need it
