I have lots of experience with many many SB Live cards, and I have never had any trouble out of them. I have had more than my alloted share of problems from the drivers, though. Creative cards remind me of ATI cards...get the product right, get the drivers dead wrong. The P4 chips usually use around 25% more than the Athlon chips. http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=2313 AMD sells many more chips to home-builders and non-proprietary system builders who don't often add up the total power consumption of everything, as opposed to brand-name systems that generally get contracts from Intel and who use the absolute minimum power supply available, sometimes as low as 135 watt in new systems (I've seen Compaq's lock up when the volume was turned up too high on the sound card. In those cases, it's usually a Creative Labs card, since they usually have quite powerful amplifiers.)
