init timeouts

Ever since i applied the recent glibc rpms, my server will no longer boot
correctly. When launching runlevel 5 it starts to complain that the INIT Id
1/2/3/4/5/6/x are respawning too fast and are being disabled. So i want to
go in and roll back the last rpm to the last known working version of glibc.
I boot the machine up off the survival cd, and get the drive mounted as
/mnt/rootfs and /mnt/boot. But in order for RPM to work, i need the one
partition mounted as /. However the survival cd has / mounted from
/tmp/loop1 nd i cannot seem to unmount it.

Can someone gve me any ideas? Or pointers on a better approach to get this
machine back??

thanks in advance
Michael Weiner
