Is anybody else having up2date nightmares over a 56k modem?

No, but I have noticed it seems to take a lot more time and download more data to grab the header files. I also saw the GPG error you mentioned once before, a couple of days after the RHN release of shrike, and chalked it up to massive congestion at RHN. Guess I ought to investigate it more...it hasn't happened since so I stopped worrying about it.

Why would I want to spend $60 to subscribe to something that does not
work over a modem connection reliably? Really frustrating, this never
happened with 7.3 or earlier, only with 8.0 and 9.

Well, I can say that up2date worked flawlessly over 56k on 8.0 and has only croaked one time since installing RHL9. FWIW, I'm also paying subscriber.
