RE: Red Hat EW Licensing

When I asked that exact question of an account manager at a dog&pony show
they did with Oracle at Redhat's main office, the response was that the
SRPMs are GPL, but the binary distribution is not. AS was being licensed
for one year at a time for a single computer at a time.

Since in the reorganization to WS, ES and AS, RH has gone back to calling it
Enterprise Linux, this may have changed. With AS2.1, they actually said
that it was not Linux but had many features of Linux (at least part of the
reason for this statement was because some of the SMP changes they made were
not blessed, they may be at this point).

You are only buying the support. You have the right to use the software
on as many machines as you want. You have the right to qive it to anyone
you want. It's GPL. You can even base your own distro of it, and sell that.

The support contract does have limitations, but they only void the
support contract, not your right to use the software.

If you want support and update access through RHEN, you must abide by
the terms of the agreement. That means paying for every RHEL-WS/ES/AS
system you have.
