OK. I tried these command

redhat-config-xfree86 --noui
redhat-config-xfree86 --noui --set-resolution 800 600
redhat-config-xfree86 --noui --set-resolution 800x600
redhat-config-xfree86 --noui --set-resolution=800 600
redhat-config-xfree86 --noui --set-resolution=800x600
redhat-config-xfree86 --reconfig (doesn't open X, just returns back to 
shell after a few seconds)

Can you do me a favour and confirm at least if it works without running 
X/GUI? Because this is the only way I can change my resolution to a 
lower one so my monitor affords it.
