I already mentioned that I tried it but it didn't work, as it only
gets back to the command line doing nothing.

--noui don't show the gui, implicit when using --set options

People, believe I tried each of these one by one for 2 hours or more.. and none worked.
Can anyone *please* try it and make sure it works and tell me how :'(

And I spent 2 hours last night using --set options without bringing up
X trying to debug my savage driver options.

Please give us the exact command line you're using (with either --noui
or --set-<something>) and tell us if X started up or not. Telling us
"none worked" isn't very explicit.

OK. I tried these command

redhat-config-xfree86 --noui
redhat-config-xfree86 --noui --set-resolution 800 600
redhat-config-xfree86 --noui --set-resolution 800x600
redhat-config-xfree86 --noui --set-resolution=800 600
redhat-config-xfree86 --noui --set-resolution=800x600
redhat-config-xfree86 --reconfig (doesn't open X, just returns back to shell after a few seconds)

Can you do me a favour and confirm at least if it works without running X/GUI? Because this is the only way I can change my resolution to a lower one so my monitor affords it.
