I won't say much, the GConf page pretty much does the job.
But the fundamental difference is that you can browse GConf with
gconf-editor, where each key has a *description*, unlike windows
registry, the description is even localized if you are not
speaking in English, and once you find the key, you can easily
create commands to edit the values, as posted above.
