hi all,
I have installed redhat 9 on my pentium 4 , attached to this pc is an HP Laserjet 5L printer & this pc is on network. i dont have a hardware printserver device , is there anything to make this printer available as network printer ( having an IP )
if not than how can i share this printer , so that everyone on the network ( all windows clients 98/2000/xp) can print directly to this printer.

three steps:

a) Install and configure Samba (quite easy) n your Linux machine
b) Install the printer locally on your Windows PC (even if it is not phisically connected)
c) change the port from LPT1: to //name_LinuxPC/name_ofprint_queue

e) if you have CUPS installed for printng, there is some extra work on two files in order to make CUPS print from the network, you have to uncomment two lines that are clearly stated in two files in the directory /ETC/CUPS : I do not remember the names of the files as I am at work where I have no CUPS running, in order to have RAW printing work

Hope that can help you

Antonio
