Per http://www.redhat.com/apps/support/errata/, version support
lifetimes are time-based, and are not based on release version numbers.
Yes, I was aware of that BUT please understand, the change to rapid
expiration of specific versions means we have to update more often to be
able to stay abreast of the flood of security updates AND new updates to
stuff not supported by Red Hat. Updating from 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3 is
*relatively* painless and we tend to think of the life of the 7.x
"series" (even with new expiration rules) as a couple of years (or
more). BUT going from 7.x to 8.x (as an example) was a LOT more time,
effort, and expense. Having to go through this much more expensive
process every year (or even more often) makes it a LOT more expensive to
use and maintain.
Regarding certification expiration, there was traffic about that on
phoebe-list just today:

Thanks for this reference. We can only hope for changes that address
this. I have long been a Red Hat support and have proven it by spending
my time and money for their certification. I must say I am starting to
feel a bit jerked around.
