Howdy All, I have previously upgraded my kernel manually(by-recompiling) several time. Recently I signed up for RedHat's up2date account. When I run up2date, I get the following: --------------------------------------------------------------- [root@xxxx root]# up2date -u Fetching package list for channel: redhat-linux-i386-8.0... ######################################## Fetching Obsoletes list for channel: redhat-linux-i386-8.0... ######################################## Fetching rpm headers... The following Packages were marked to be skipped by your configuration: Name Version Rel Reason ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- kernel 2.4.18 26.8.0Pkg name/pattern kernel-source 2.4.18 26.8.0Pkg name/pattern None of the packages you requested were found, or they are already updated. ------------------------------------------------------------- My question: Is it safe to update the kernel using up2date? On this server I dont have a custom kernel. It is the kernel that came on the RedHat 8.0 CDs. So will be safe updating the kernel using up2date?
