I upgraded to kernel-2.4.18-19.8.0. I still get the keycode errors
showing up, so the kernel upgrade didn't fix things.

My keyboard is the exact same thing, except for V (version?) being
5XTW. Maybe the 5XTV has the fixed keycodes.

I thought maybe you were using PS/2, and tried that. The results were
good and bad, but there were no keycodes over 255 this time. Here are
the xmodmap keycodes:

! same over USB and PS/2
keycode 236 = XF86Mail
keycode 230 = XF86Favorites
keycode 229 = XF86Search
keycode 223 = XF86Standby

keycode 233 = XF86Start
keycode 234 = XF86Back

! available over PS/2
keycode 178 = XF86HomePage
keycode 162 = XF86AudioPrev
keycode 164 = XF86AudioNext
keycode 153 = XF86AudioNext
keycode 144 = XF86AudioPrev
keycode 176 = XF86AudioRaiseVolume
keycode 174 = XF86AudioLowerVolume
keycode 160 = XF86AudioMute
keycode 237 = XF86AudioMedia
! messenger
keycode 145 = XF86Community
! webcam
keycode 146 = XF86WWW
! iTouch
keycode 147 = XF86VendorHome
! shopping
keycode 148 = XF86Finance
! F-locked F keys: 187, 188, 118, 119, 120, 121, 122, 194, 195, 196, 215, 216
! the first 8 interfere with Shift+F1 through Shift+F8 in Emacs
!keycode 187 = F13
!keycode 188 = F14
!keycode 118 = F15
!keycode 119 = F16
!keycode 120 = F17
!keycode 121 = F18
!keycode 122 = F19
!keycode 194 = F20
keycode 195 = F21
keycode 196 = F22
keycode 215 = F23
keycode 216 = F24

! scroll wheel click, scroll wheel sends Up/Down key
keycode 150 = XF86RockerDown

So there are the following problems with PS/2:

- the scroll wheel doesn't scroll up/down as a mouse would, now it's
  just the up/down keys

- the F-locked F1 through F8 keys overlap Shift+F1 through Shift+F8 as
  far as Emacs is concerned

I still want to use the keyboard over USB, so kernel support for
keycodes over 255 would be nice...

Ted

p.s. Incidentally, Logitech's LISA user support system is hilariously
useless.
