It should be both actually.  A short while ago, Mike Harris was putting out 
CVS snapshots of XFree86.  I tried to use these snapshots, but nvidia drivers 
absolutly would not work.  If I reverted X back to stock, Nvidia worked.  
Perhaps the latest version of Nvidia drivers have support for newer versions 
of X, this was a version of 2 ago (nVidia version).
