I openned the box and sure enough the cable is there. I also unplugged it and then put it back to be sure it had a good connection. I've also had the mixer open and made sure the cdrom volume is cranked up to the top. It was. Still no sound from when playing audio cd's. I've been wondering if there might be a software conflict? I installed the missing xmms mp3 rpm so I could play mp3's. I also put on the XINE rpms to play mpg's. They all work just fine but perhaps XINE messed up the cd audio? Later today I'll remove the XINE rpms to be sure. The rest is a stock pysche box. I had upgraded this system from 6.2 through all the interim releases and I was experiencing stability problems. Just a week ago I blew everything away and did a fresh install.
