Since I have to roll my own version of sendmail from source (I need milter
support), I have never had the luxury of using the RH supplied
binaries/RPM's. I do use Redhat's sendmail.mc file though as a starting
point for configuring sendmail. But if I remember correctly, RH does compile
sendmail with tcp_wrapper support. You may need to add an entry to
/etc/hosts.allow. I don't really know, I always disable tcp_wrapper support
when I re-compile sendmail from the source. Probably worth a try though.

Other than that, I am out of ideas on what could be causing your problem.
Still sounds firewall related though.
