I am having this strange problem under RH 8.0 and I am totally stumped as to the cause. Every once an awhile( 1 to 2 times a day) I will have my session crash and go back to the RH login screen. I don't think there is any application or action that I am doing that causes it to happen. It just happens randomly. Here is my system specs: RH8.0 gcc3.2 Nvidia Quadro 4 750 XGL nvidia driver version: 4191 Another effect of this restart is that it kills my graphics performance. I can get 30-35 fps in the simulation program that I'm working on before the restart. After this crash I get only 8 fps. The only way that I have been able to restore the performance is to restart the computer correctly. Here is a sample of my /var/log/messages file (Sorry for the length, the latest crash happened around 13:13 on Jan 27): Jan 27 07:27:51 oceanus gdm(pam_unix)[5080]: session opened for user slc by (uid=0) Jan 27 07:27:55 oceanus modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-1 Jan 27 07:27:55 oceanus modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-1-0 Jan 27 07:27:55 oceanus modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-1 Jan 27 07:27:55 oceanus modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-1-0 Jan 27 07:27:58 oceanus modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-1 Jan 27 07:27:58 oceanus modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-1-0 Jan 27 07:27:58 oceanus modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-1 Jan 27 07:27:58 oceanus modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-1-0 Jan 27 07:28:59 oceanus gconfd (slc-21275): starting (version 1.0.9), pid 21275 user 'slc' Jan 27 08:33:14 oceanus su(pam_unix)[22199]: session opened for user root by slc(uid=1024) Jan 27 08:33:47 oceanus su(pam_unix)[22199]: session closed for user root Jan 27 10:05:19 oceanus userhelper: pam_timestamp: timestamp file `/var/run/sudo/slc/unknown:root' is too old, disallowing access to redhat-config-date for UID 1024 Jan 27 10:05:39 oceanus ntpd: ntpd shutdown failed Jan 27 13:13:39 oceanus gdm(pam_unix)[5080]: session closed for user slc Jan 27 13:13:39 oceanus gdm[5080]: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0 Jan 27 13:13:39 oceanus modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-10-134 Jan 27 13:13:48 oceanus gconfd (slc-21275): GConf server is not in use, shutting down.
