RE: linksys and mozilla

Thanks, and yes, I am surrounded by books and do search the net.

Many of my questions have been lingering for a while before I asked the,
but I'll admit that I did not search for the Linksys problem first.

The Linksys is accessed through a web-browser. It has a popup window
that displays the list of DHCP users. (The router doubles as DHCP
Server.) That window is an internet window and works perfectly in
Microsoft Internet Explorer, but it doesn't work in Mozilla on Red Hat
Linux 8.0.

I am sorry that several of my Linux questions were misinterpreted as
being Microsoft Windows questions. I post Microsoft questions to
WinNT-l and Linux questions here. I asked a question about whether or
not Linux had a similar vulnerability that Windows had earlier and I
received many many replies trying to address the windows problem before
someone finally explained that Linux had no such similar problem, the
answer I was looking for. Apparently this question was also
misunderstood, perhaps I didn't explain it well, but I assumed that if
someone were using a Linksys and Linux, they would have an answer and
understand how it works.

I hope I am not being a burden here. I am going through a very big
learning curve and running into brick walls. I started working with
Linux over a month ago and had to put it down for a couple weeks and
picked it back up. I have purchase three books at $50 each and returned
one today as it had four chapters that were totally wrong about Red Hat
8. The other two are good, but just a little over my head. Some of the
problems I had, such as the TWM weren't covered in the books at all. I
have re-installed Linux no less than 8 times this month, two times in
the last two days. I have been searching the net and getting ideas for
the future but not doing well finding answers to immediate questions.

I have definitely run into some surprises in this venture. I certainly
expected to be very much further along than I am on my learning goals.
I know the number and frequency of questions will drop radically after I
reach my first milestone which is to make the computer a usable file
server where I can administer the users and basic functions.

Well, it is now I that hopes I don't sound rude or ungrateful. I
reviewed my questions and found a couple that could have better been
researched, but some are looking for opinion and others I just couldn't
find. It is amazing how far behind I got by following an abortion that
someone released as a teaching book. Every night I read some of these,
now two, books. I do a bit of reading in the day as well. Ironically,
once I get into some of the more advanced features, I'll be more at
home. I am really hurting in the basics right now. I was hoping I
would have accomplished my goal of getting setup by last weekend, but I
am very disappointed that I didn't reach it this weekend. I will
continue plugging at it until I get it or until I just can't afford to
put any more time in it, which ever comes first.

BTW, in my review, I noticed one of my questions got lost in everything.
Do you happen to know the maximum length of a Linux password? I have
looked in all three books and on the internet. I found on the internet
that someone else asked and didn't get an answer either.

Thanks

Buck

Buck,

I dont mean to sound rude or unhelpful but have you done any research on
anything before you ask? you seem to be asking alot of questions with
out researching them first. google.com is always very helpful with the
rightly asked query you usually find what you are seeking. proving
more information on the exact problem also helps as the problem can be
pinpointed with greater ease. Questions on windows are inappropriate as
this list is for Red Hat Linux 8.0 questions on samba are fine. I'm
glad that your trying out linux, i think that you will learn more by
searching for what you need rather than just asking, you will be able
to do what you want with your network, you just need to learn how. I
wish you all the sucess in the world.

What do you mean by popup? does a new window popup showing the list of
ips given out? have you tried konqueror or nautalis?
