I have set up the standard UW IMAP server on a stock Red Hat 8.0 box and
can happily access e-mail thru a Mozilla Mail client using IMAP.
Mozilla mail allows me to create "subfolders" on the server and move
messages into/out of them. So far, so good. Checking the server, I see
that no actual folders are created. Instead, Mozilla creates a
"tracking" file in the local user $HOME/.mozilla/... path and appears to
record which messages in the remote spool belong where.
The problem I have is when I try to delete a subfolder from Mozilla
mail. It returns an error message from the IMAP server saying it can't
delete it. This only seems odd to me because Mozilla was able to
"create" the subfolders to begin with. The only way I can remove the
folder is to go into the $HOME/.mozilla/... path and delete it from the
console.
Squirrelmail seems to work around this kind of issue because it has a
separate data area where it can actually create/delete folders on behalf
of a user.
I don't know enough about IMAP to know if this is an error on the part
of the UW IMAP server or Mozilla. I welcome any comments or what is
going on here.
Best Regards,
Keith
