Thanks Shane. It works, but with 'serviceconf' command that will open the UI, then we can click on mysqld and start it like that.
But it's really not nice. I guess there must be a way to start it normally from the command line.
Please let me know if you know that, in the mean time I'll start reading the manuals...:)

Subject: RedHat 8, how to start mysql?

Hallo list, how to start mysql?
I got this all the time:
-------------------------
[root@localhost]# safe_mysqld &
[1] 1981
[root@localhost]# Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql
030110 06:26:49 mysqld ended
[root@localhost]#
[1]+ Done safe_mysqld
[root@localhost]# mysql
ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket
'/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (111)
[root@localhost]#
-------------------------
Thanks!

JD
