I've been having the same problem but only with remote xterms(we use a 
command 'rcmd'). I've been meaning to post to the list but after 
reading the bit below, I just tried unset LANG on my remote xterm and 
it fixed the problem. Now to work out where to unset it. I guess it's 
in /etc/profile.d/lang.* but I'm concerned that whatever I do might 
break other things. (I am setting up 8.0 to be used by about 1000 
users).
I'll read the release notes first I think before I go breaking things.
