If it worked automaticaly in 7.3, it shouldn't be a problem with 8.0.  
>From the description of your problem it sounds as if the gateway device 
isn't getting handled correctly.  Check the output of route -n to see what 
your system thinks is the gateway.  Can you show us:

route -n

ifconfig

ps axww|grep dhc

cat /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-eth0

dmesg|grep eth


There ought to be something in there to work with
