I also use 3c509b.  RHL 8.0 kept my connections from 7.2, but the 3c509b would
not work.  I got around this problem by re-creating a network connection to
use the Earthlink/TWC web access (cable).  

BTW, the 3com configuration utility did not work for me.  I manually
configured the 3c509b -- only IRQ and I/O were needed (10 and 0x240,
respectively in my case).  

PnP is turned on in my PhoenixBIOS.  3c509b would not work with it off.  (?!)
