I cannot speak for Shrikant, but that is something I see on my machine. 

When I log in with Gnome session, and switch to a virtual terminal, the
Gnome session ends and I am dropped back to gdm.

I see this problem less often with KDE. I rolled my own non-redhat 
versions of GNOME and KDE and they seem to work fine, as does Afterstep.
Also, if I open a menu in the GDM (such as the "Sessions" menu) and 
switch to a virtual terminal and back, that stays there, so the problem 
seems to be local to Redhat and possibly Gnome.
