On the 98 machine, do a search/find for hosts and lmhost file (I think in
C:\Windows dir).  Once you find the two, add your network names/IP's to each
file and that might help the 98 machine find the networked machines faster.
Your probably not running a local network DNS, so it sometimes takes a
little longer for the networked machines to find other machines without some
guidance to help hold it's hand.

Your /etc/hosts file on linux machine looks fine though, with all 3 entries.
