Here are some ideas. 1. is there a linux user account for the user account used to log into the win98 machine? 2. is there an smb user account mapped to the linux user account i.e. smbadduser linux_user_name:win_user_name 3. encrypted passwords should = yes 4. I have always set the security to user 5. allow hosts is actually hosts allow. Which is the ip address or network address of comptuers that can access this computer for shares. from my experience it's kind of buggy, especially if you want this server to be a logon server. If you want to limit the users that have access to this service user hosts.allow or hosts.deny 6. also, you don't need the ipx protocols if your not running netware servers. p.s. do you work at execpc?
