Thank goodness I installed KDE because less than a week after upgrading to RH8.0 from RH7.3 my laptop suffered a major GNOME2 problem at startup. The panel crashed leaving only its "hide" arrow in the lower left hand corner of the screen and these two error messages. Error (-) Application "gnome-panel" (process 1115) has crashed due to a fatal error. (Aborted) Error (-) Application "battstat-applet-2" (process 1140) has crashed due to a fatal error. (Segmentation fault) Those eventually cleared, but now all my GNOME desktop and menu fonts are about 1 pixel high. I haven't a clue where to begin looking for the problem in GNOME2. Suggestions? I don't know if they mean anything, but I found these in /var/log/messages: Oct 15 15:22:06 lioness gconfd (doc-1088): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory" to a read-only config source at position 0 Oct 15 15:22:06 lioness gconfd (doc-1088): Resolved address "xml:readwrite:/home/doc/.gconf" to a writable config source at position 1 Oct 15 15:22:06 lioness gconfd (doc-1088): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults" to a read-only config source at position 2 --Doc Savage Fairview Heights, IL -- Psyche-list mailing list Psyche-list@redhat.com https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/psyche-list
