When the GRUB selection screen comes up at boot time, hit 'e', go to the 
second line and hit 'e' again, add "apm=off" to the end of the line, hit 
enter, hit 'b' to boot. 


I have the exact same problem starting with 7.3.  I'm running a Dell 
Deminsion 4100 machine.
