Try again with the "monitorlayout" option.

As far as what tree to use... ther's no right answer.

if you want support from redhat - use redhat 4.3.0.  It contains a fair
amount of the improvements from cvs, not sure which.

xfree86 cvs - the latest and greatest X.  contains all the latest
updates, but an older DRI

DRI cvs - The latest and greatest for 3D.  contains a fairly recent
version of xfree86 cvs, but all the latest DRI developments, also my
mergedfb code.
