Actually, to be more precise the behavior is as follows; the backlight
on the external LCD comes on, it flickers for an instant, the backlight
on the builtin LCD comes on, and finally the 640x480 picture is displayed
on the external LCD. No picture is displayed on the builtin LCD.

Although the behavior is slightly different depending on wheather or not I
reboot. If I just Ctrl-Alt-F1, init 3, init 5 there is also a 1400x1050
(good) picture on the builtin LCD.

Also, I'm not sure if this is noteworthy but the BIOS has three boot
display device options; "LCD", "CRT", and "Both" although I have tried
all of these without any effect on the ultimate result. They do appear
to control which display is initally used.

performs rather than the physical world or a process because this
maximizes the potential for it to be applied to tasks that are
conceptually similar and, more important, to tasks that have not
yet been conceived.
