Hi all, I am having a strange problem with the X server of my laptop (IBM Thinkpad T30 - ATI Radeon Mobility M7 LW). I am using the X server that comes by default with RedHat 8.0. All of a sudden, my X server starts eating up 99->100% of CPU time. And the laptop stops responding completely. Surprisingly, it responds to mouse movements. But that's about it. [And, of course, I can remotely connect to it, and see that X is taking up all CPU! On the laptop itself, I can't do a thing because none of my keyboard actions work!!] I have noticed that this event is caused most of the times by mouse movements - always mouse drag actions (e.g., moving of a window, resizing etc.) However, I have had this happen some times with keyboard actions also (e.g., keyboard actions which result in workspace changes, etc.). I have no idea what the problem is. Is there a bug in the IBM touchpad driver or something - just a wild guess! I would really appreciate any help - I am really tired of rebooting my laptop every so often because of X hanging. Attached is the 'top' output on my laptop. I have also attached XF86Config - if that is useful. Thanks in advance, Ashwin ------ Output of 'top' ---------------------------------------------- 1043 root 19 0 63192 35M 11272 R 99.6 14.0 2:03 X 3621 ashu 11 0 924 924 732 R 0.3 0.3 0:00 top 1 root 8 0 480 480 428 S 0.0 0.1 0:04 init 2 root 9 0 0 0 0 SW 0.0 0.0 0:00 keventd 3 root 9 0 0 0 0 SW 0.0 0.0 0:00 kapmd 4 root 19 19 0 0 0 SWN 0.0 0.0 0:00 ksoftirqd_CPU0 5 root 9 0 0 0 0 SW 0.0 0.0 0:00 kswapd ------ End output ---------------------------------------------------- ------ XF86Config ---------------------------------------------------- # File generated by anaconda.
