This problem is due to Dell's BIOS not following Intel's documented specifications (which Intel indicates on their website as well). The proper fix is for Dell to fix their BIOS and publish a BIOS update for their customers to use. >Looking into the archives of i830 discussions I notice that Mike >Harris should have a working set of XFree rpms available. Or do I completely misunderstand >the meaning of rawhide? The definition of rawhide is: Red Hat Linux "Rawhide" contains the latest untested packages from internal Red Hat development. Rawhide is not a beta release, doesn't have ISO images, doesn't have an installer, and is constantly changing daily as bugs get fixed, packages get updated, new features get added. Since it is developmental, packages will break from time to time. You can find rawhide at: ftp://rawhide.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/rawhide Rawhide is not intended for use on production systems. The rawhide packages do contain a kludge workaround for the broken Dell BIOS, and it has been confirmed to work by the original person who reported the bug, as well as numerous other users, including people from Dell. This workaround for the BIOS bug will be officially part of the next Red Hat Linux release. There are no plans to backport the new driver to Red Hat Linux 8.0 as that would entail a rather large amount of development engineering for what is not even an XFree86 bug, but is a hardware bug.
