As you suggest, this is not a "Made by ATI" card, it's a "Powered by ATI" 
because ATI's cards are vendor:1002, subvendor:1002

Ashwin, hopefully someone can give you more information, but the best that
I can offer is to try using some of the debugging suggestions from here:
http://gatos.sourceforge.net/dri-debug.php

When you've gathered whatever information you can using those procedures 
as far as is practical for you I'd suggest posting to the Xpert mailing 
list.
