You're using the i386 kernel which doesn't support DRI.  Install 
the i586/i686/athlon kernel that is appropriate for your CPU, and 
reboot into it and all should be well.

DRI uses i486 and higher CPU instructions, which is why it 
doesn't work on i386 kernels.
