Is the keyboard working?

What does the mouse sections of XF86Config(-4) look like?

What does lsmod list?
What does lsusb show?

Check dmesg, /var/log/dmesg, and /var/log/messages
for usb related reports.

Mike,
I just noticed that my USB mouse isn't working anymore either.
It did, but the last time I used it was several kernel/XFree86
versions back. I also have a Focus brand USB keyboard+trackball
and I just tried it and it does work.

I have the output from lsusb for each if you want it.
