Re: Problems with writing dvds

Mark,

I am successful at writing cds to the /dev/hdb drive, but not dvds. I was
wondering if my drive can't deal with a 16x dvd.

Sorry I don't know what "bounced" means on a system.

Ahhhh, I just looked at your error messages more closely. Do I understand correctly, that this has two DVD drives, and one's read-only? Has the system
bounced since the last time you successfully wrote to it?

If the answer's yes to both, then it may be that the system swapped them for
some reason, and you're trying to write to the readonly drive.

Have you upgraded, or made changes to the system?

I used to use

growisofs -dvd-compat -speed=16 -Z /dev/hdb=Fedora-8-i386-DVD.iso

but I get the error message:

:-( /dev/hdb: media is not recognized as recordable DVD: 0

I have tried using both imation dvd-r/16x and
                  Memorex dvd+r/16x

cdrecord -v speed=16 dev=/dev/hdb name.iso - works, so I know
that the device that I am using is correct.

cdrecord -scanbus

      0,1,0 1) 'HL-DT-ST' 'DVD+-RW GWA4164B' 'D108' Removable
CD-ROM

uname -a - 2.6.9-67.0.1.ELsmp #1 SMP
rpm -aq cdrecord - cdrecord-2.01.1-5
